A school of Koi fish swim together upstream with every bit of their strength

Shinning brightly like polished jewels in the Yellow River of China

They swim against the powerful currents of the river and attempted to climb the waterfall

Local deities witnessed their efforts and heightened the waterfall out of spite –

Some fish could not bear the challenge and so they turned around and

Let the river take them back down stream

More fish turned around

After 100 years of swimming upstream, one Koi fish eventually reached the top of the waterfall

The god recognized the persistence of this Koi Fish and

Turned it into a golden  dragon, a symbol of power and strength

Hence the waterfall known as

The Dragon Gate
